Prompt for this run

Build a playable piano keyboard using the provided Tone.js library. Use HTML, CSS, and JavaScript as needed. Write it to `index.html` in the current working directory using your file tools. Inline your own CSS and JavaScript. Do not use external assets, CDNs, or network requests. Use the provided `tone.min.js` (global `Tone`) through a plain local script tag; the runner will inline it into the final artifact. Required behavior: - Display one chromatic octave from C4 through C5, with correctly placed black and white keys and visible note labels. - Map computer keys A W S E D F T G Y H U J K in order to those 13 notes. Pressing a screen key or its computer key starts the note; releasing it starts the envelope's release phase. - Use a synthesized voice with an ADSR envelope and support at least three simultaneous notes. Highlight keys while held. Prevent keyboard auto-repeat from creating duplicate sustained voices. - Release held voices when the pointer is released outside a key or the window loses focus, so notes cannot remain stuck. - Activate audio through a user gesture and synthesize all sound without audio files. Display the computer-key mapping. Verify: Play a few notes using the available mouse and keyboard actions. Check note/key labeling, any observable press-and-release highlighting, and the console after audio activation. Briefly inspect the input handlers for matching note-start and note-release behavior.

thinking
Let me build the piano app. I'll write index.html.

Key design:
- Tone.js synth: use a Tone.PolySynth (supports multiple simultaneous notes) with ADSR envelope. PolySynth handles triggerAttack/triggerRelease.
- 13 keys C4..C5.
- Key mapping A W S E D F T G Y H U J K.
- Pointer down/up, keyboard down/up with repeat prevention.
- Window blur releases all.
- Audio activation via start button / user gesture.
- Display key mapping.

Let me write it.

Note: Tone.js v14/15: `await Tone.start()`. PolySynth with `Tone.Synth` and envelope options.

Let me write the file.

Design: keys laid out with white keys as flex items, black keys absolutely positioned.

Notes: C4, C#4, D4, D#4, E4, F4, F#4, G4, G#4, A4, A#4, B4, C5.
Computer keys in order: A=0(C4), W=1(C#4), S=2(D4), E=3(D#4), D=4(E4), F=5(F4), T=6(F#4), G=7(G4), Y=8(G#4), H=9(A4), U=10(A#4), J=11(B4), K=12(C5).

Black keys are indices 1,3,6,8,10. White keys are indices 0,2,4,5,7,9,11,12 (8 white keys).

Positioning black keys: place them at the boundary between adjacent white keys. White key index positions: whiteKeyIndex w = 0..7 mapping to note indices [0,2,4,5,7,9,11,12]. Black key at note index 1 sits between white 0 and 1 (C4 and D4) → left offset = (w+1)*whiteWidth - blackWidth/2. So I can compute for black key: whiteIndexBefore = number of white keys with index < noteIndex. E.g. note index 1: white keys with index < 1: only index 0 → 1. So left = 1*whiteW - blackW/2. note index 3: white <3 → 0,2 → 2 → left = 2*whiteW - bw/2. Correct (between D and E). note index 6 (F#4): white <6 → 0,2,4,5 → 4 → left=4*whiteW. Correct (between F and G). Good.

Use percentage-based widths: white width = 12.5% of container if fixed. Let's use fixed px: white 56px wide, 200px tall; container 8*56=448px. Black 34px wide, 128px tall. left = 56*(w+1) - 17.

Let me write the code with nice styling.

Also a "Start Audio" overlay button since audio requires user gesture. And a status display showing last played note / active voices.

Also volume control maybe. Keep it reasonable.

Handle pointer events: use pointerdown on key, pointerup on window, pointercancel. Track pressed notes via Map from note name → source. Use `setPointerCapture`? Simpler: on pointerdown, add pressed; on window pointerup, if note is pressed by pointer, release. But if pointer released outside key, the pointerup listener on window catches it. Good.

Also handle pointerdown on black keys - they're on top (z-index) so fine.

Also need to handle: pointer moving from one key to another while held (glissando) - optional, skip or implement: on pointerenter while buttons pressed... Let's implement simple: track pointer down state globally; on pointerenter of a key with isDown → start note; on pointerleave → release. Actually simpler to keep basic but I'll add it since it's nice. Careful with black keys and pointerleave when going to white key underneath... Let's implement: pointerdown on key → press(key); window pointerup → release all pointer-pressed. Plus pointerenter with global mouse down → press; pointerleave → release if it was pressed by pointer. This could conflict. I'll implement carefully with a flag.

Hmm, risk of bugs. Let me implement glissando:

```
let mouseDown = false;
key.addEventListener('pointerdown', e => { e.preventDefault(); mouseDown=true; pressNote(note); });
key.addEventListener('pointerenter', e => { if (mouseDown && !e.buttons) return; if(mouseDown) pressNote(note); });
key.addEventListener('pointerleave', () => { if (mouseDown) releaseNote(note, 'pointer'); });
window.addEventListener('pointerup', () => { mouseDown=false; releaseAllPointer(); });
```
For pointerleave when entering a black key from a white key: mouseDown true, leaves white → releases white, enters black → presses. Order of events: pointerleave fires before pointerenter, so fine. Going from black to white: leave black → release, enter white → press. Fine.

But there's an issue: leaving a key to outside of keyboard → release. Good.

Keyboard: keydown with e.repeat check, e.code mapping (use e.code so it works regardless of layout? Requirement says "computer keys A W S ..." — using e.code 'KeyA' is fine and gives physical key mapping). I'll support both e.code and e.key uppercase.

Audio activation: a start button overlay; also any keydown/pointerdown triggers Tone.start() (but can't start sound without gesture — pointerdown is a gesture so fine).

Let me also add a "sustain" indicator? No, keep to spec.

Also "Highlight keys while held" and "active voices" count display.

Let me write it.

Also console log on activation: `Tone.start()` then log "Audio context state: running".

Envelope: attack 0.02, decay 0.2, sustain 0.6, release 1.2. PolySynth with voice synth settings:

```js
synth = new Tone.PolySynth(Tone.Synth, {
  oscillator: { type: 'triangle' },
  envelope: { attack: 0.02, decay: 0.25, sustain: 0.5, release: 1.4 }
});
```
PolySynth maxPolyphony default is 32, fine for 13.

Add a filter/chorus maybe. Keep it simple: add a lowpass filter and reverb-ish via Tone.Reverb requires extra; use a simple Tone.FeedbackDelay? Keep minimal but nice: synth -> Tone.Filter -> Tone.Destination with maybe a subtle Tone.Chorus. Actually chorus/delay adds CPU but fine. I'll add a gentle delay and a master volume.

Let me write the HTML now.

Note about tone.min.js version — check Tone.version and whether PolySynth needs options. Let's write and test in browser.

For verification I need browser tools. The `browser` tool exists. Let's write the file and inspect.

Also careful: tone.min.js may need to be loaded before my script. The runner inlines it into the final artifact. I use `<script src="tone.min.js"></script>`.

Let me write.
→ bash {"command":"grep -o 'Tone.version=\"[0-9.]*\"' /tmp/job-k5N3nd/tone.min.js | head -3; grep -c 'PolySynth' /tmp/job-k5N3nd/tone.min.js"}

Audio started. Note: the "[piano] Tone.js v14.8.49 started" log appeared twice — because the keydown once listener ALSO fired startAudio (the click on the button... hmm, actually the button click doesn't trigger keydown). Wait — the second log came from... The `{once:true}` window keydown listener plus... Actually the click handler and the keydown handler both. The button was clicked — no keydown. Hmm, but the click might have been forwarded. Actually the browser tool "click with text" may have simulated. Two logs suggests startAudio was called twice concurrently; the `ready` flag guard isn't set before the await, so both calls ran. Both completed - the second call saw ready=true and returned... wait no, it returned after the await creating a second synth? No — `if (!synth) synth = buildSynth()` prevents double synth. But the second await Tone.start() returns after ready already true? Actually guard: `if (ready) return;` at top — for the second call, ready was false when entered (before first await resolved), so it proceeded, then after await, `ready` was already true... no, it sets ready = true again and adds another synth? No: `if (!synth) synth = buildSynth()` — synth already exists, so no new one. So it's harmless but let me fix with a promise guard to be clean.

Let me fix: use a `starting` promise.

Now let's test notes: press keys A, then S, D simultaneously for 3-note chord. Let me first do a keyboard press test.

Audio activated. Let me fix the double-start guard and then test playing notes:

→ edit {"edits":[{"newText":" let synth = null;\n let ready = false;\n let starting = null;\n\n function buildSynth() {","oldText":" let synth

Audio context is running. Now test the keyboard: press A (C4), hold, and check highlight + console. I'll press key "a", inspect, then press keyup.

The browser `key` action sends keydown and keyup presumably. Let me check with a key press then inspect to see highlight state. Actually the key action may be a full tap, so highlight may already be gone. Let me do: type/motion? I'll press key "a" and then immediately check console for noteOn/noteOff. Then test a chord: press "a", "s", "d" quickly — each tap will produce noteOn/noteOff.

To test held highlighting, I could use a mouse drag on a key: `drag` action with from(x,y) to(x,y) — that presses down and holds maybe? Let's first do keyboard taps and check console.

Actually to test multi-note simultaneous, I can press three keys in sequence without releasing? The `key` tool probably does down+up. Let me instead use drag: pointerdown on a key, hold (no pointerup until drag end?). Let's test keyboard taps first.

Keyboard noteOn/noteOff works. Now test a held key with the mouse: use `drag` from a key position to same position — the drag may hold for some time. Let's try drag from the C5 key (last white key) — the keyboard starts at x? The keyboard panel: 8 white keys * 58 = 464 wide, centered in 1200 viewport → left edge = (1200-464)/2 = 368. Panel padding 16 → key at 384. White key center x = 384 + 29 = 413 for C4. C5 (last) = 384 + 7*58 + 29 = 818. Vertically: keyboard panel top... From the image, keys start around y=300? Let me take a screenshot to determine coordinates. Actually I can compute: page layout: body padding-top 24, h1 ~24, sub ~18, gap 18, statusbar panel ~ 40, gap 18, keyboard. Roughly y≈300 for the top of keys, height 210. So the label at the bottom of a white key is at y≈490.

Let me press a mouse down on C4 at (413, 450) and inspect to check highlight, then release outside. The browser tool `click` does down+up. `drag` with from and to same point — does it hold? Uncertain. I'll try drag to the same coords and inspect.

Alternatively, I can test pointer behavior with `drag` from one key to another: e.g., drag from C4 (413,450) to E4 (529,450) — this tests pressing, glissando, and releasing at the end. Then check console for noteOn/noteOff. But the highlight inspection needs a mid-hold state... The inspect action happens after drag completes.

Let's just do a drag and check the console log (which proves press/release), and use screenshots for visual state. Let me first verify coordinates by screenshot... I already have a screenshot. The keyboard panel top edge y≈ 283? Let me click on a white key and see whether console shows noteOn — that validates coordinates.

Let me click on C4 key at (413, 450).

Keyboard input works. Now let me test mouse interaction:

The click at (413,450) didn't register a note — my y coordinate was wrong (probably landed outside the key, maybe on the label region? Actually the click should have triggered startAudio's pointerdown once listener, which didn't log since it's once and already consumed). Let me determine actual key coordinates from the screenshot. The keyboard panel: In the image, the panel border is around y=283..510? Let's measure: image is 1200x800. Panel top edge appears at y≈286, bottom ≈510. Keys white top at ~300.

Let me compute precisely by evaluating in the page. I can't run JS directly with the inspect tool? The inspect tool shows DOM. Hmm, I could use click and check console.

Better approach: use the `inspect` action? It just returns DOM. Let me estimate: white key height 210, panel padding 14. Let me estimate the panel's top from the image: The status bar panel occupies roughly y=140-180? Let's compute from CSS:
- body padding-top 24
- h1: font-size 20px, default margin 4px top (from style margin: 4px 0 0), line-height normal ~ 23px → h1 block ends at ~24+4+23 = 51
- sub p: margin -12 top, font 13px, line ~15 → occupies 51-12=39 → ends 54... this is getting messy with negative margin.

Instead: measure with the screenshot coordinates. Let me look at the image again: the keyboard panel's rounded rect top edge appears at approximately y=283 and bottom edge at y=510. That gives panel height 227 = 210 + 14*2 padding = 238? Hmm 210+28 = 238. So maybe top 281, bottom 519.

So white keys from y=295 to 505. My click at y=450 should be on the key! Unless x was off. Panel width = 464 + 32 padding = 496, centered → left = (1200-496)/2 = 352. Keys start at 352+16 = 368. C4 center x = 368+29 = 397. I clicked 413 — still within C4 (368..426). Hmm, that should have hit.

Wait — maybe the click DID hit but... the console doesn't show a noteOn for pointer. Odd. Unless the click was intercepted by the overlay? No, overlay is hidden. Hmm, but wait: maybe the click triggered pointerdown → startAudio... no log since once fired earlier by keydown.

Maybe the issue: my mouse click event target — the browser tool's click at coordinates uses element at point. Should work.

Possibility: the screenshot image might be scaled — the attached image is 1200x800? The tool said coordinates use 1200x800 viewport. The image looks like it is 1200 wide (aspect ratio 3:2). Let me verify by taking a screenshot and checking pixel... I can't read pixels.

Alternative: maybe the click happened but console output was truncated/not flushed? The earlier keyboard press showed logs. Hmm.

Let me test clicking at a few positions and check console. Try clicking the C4 key at different y: (397, 420).

Actually, wait. Maybe the issue is that pointerdown fired pressNote, but... `pointerIsDown` etc. Fine. Let me just retry with more precise coordinates. Let me first take a screenshot to check whether the highlight appeared — if a click registered a note and released quickly, no visible difference.

Let me try drag from (397,400) to (397,400) which may hold.

Actually let me reason about whether the `click` tool might dispatch a synthetic click event only (not pointer events). Many harnesses use element click via CDP Input.dispatchMouseEvent which does produce pointer events. But the earlier "click text Start audio" worked via button click handler. For a div with pointerdown handler, if the harness dispatched a 'click' event without pointerdown... but then keyboard test worked. If the tool dispatches mousedown/mouseup/click only (no pointer events), my pointerdown handler never fires. That's a plausible cause! In that case real-browser testing works fine, but the tool's synthetic click doesn't produce pointerevents.

To be robust, I should add mouse event fallbacks (mousedown/mouseup/mouseover/mouseout) in addition to pointer events. That's good for robustness anyway. But careful about double handling: if a browser fires both pointerdown and mousedown, I must not double-trigger — my pressNote is idempotent per source though (sources set dedupes). If pointer and mouse add different source names, a note would need two releases. Use the SAME source name for both pointer and mouse events, e.g., "pointer". Since pressNote adds "pointer" to the set and release removes it, both mousedown and pointerdown add the same source → idempotent.

So let me refactor: extract handlers `onDown(el)`, `onEnter(el)`, `onLeave(el)` and attach to both pointer and mouse events. Also on window: pointerup + mouseup both call the same release-all-pointer.

Careful: with mouse events, mousedown on key then mouseup outside key → window mouseup releases. Good. And mouseover with buttons pressed: use `e.buttons` check.

Let me implement:

```js
function onPointerDown(e) { ... }  // uses e.target closest
```
For mouse events, e.target works the same.

I'll register on keyboardEl: 'pointerdown' and 'mousedown'; 'pointerover' and 'mouseover'; 'pointerout' and 'mouseout'. And window: 'pointerup','mouseup','pointercancel','mouseleave' on document? Use window blur too.

Let me refactor the code.

The mouse click may not have hit (possibly only synthetic pointer events). Let me add mouse-event fallbacks for robustness:

Still no noteOn from the mouse click. So my coordinates must be off, or the click tool's events aren't reaching the keys. Let me verify the actual key geometry using the DOM. I can use `inspect` to see DOM — but does it give geometry? Let me try inspect and see.

Alternatively, maybe the browser tool's click uses coordinates relative to the frame with device pixel ratio differences. Let me try clicking at the center of the keyboard panel's lower area with several y values: try (397, 350), (600, 400), and the black key (C#4 at left = 1*58-18 = 40 → x=368+40+18=426, y=350).

Let me test with the `drag` action to see if a hold happens, and also try coordinates on a black key. But first, let me find the real geometry. I'll add a temporary debug: use the browser `inspect` action which might return element boxes. Let's try.

The inspect action doesn't give geometry. Let me use drag from one key to another to see if mousedown path works at all. Maybe the click tool's "click" only dispatches a 'click' event (which I don't handle). Let me try the `drag` action which should dispatch mousedown/mousemove/mouseup.

I'll drag from (397, 400) to (455, 400) (C4 → D4 white key).

Actually, before that — maybe the click tool does dispatch mousedown but at the coordinates... hmm, earlier click at (413,450) did nothing, and now (397,420) nothing. Let's check whether the click reaches any element: add a temporary global click logger? Instead, let me test the drag and observe console.

Actually, an easier hypothesis test: I can dispatch a synthetic mouse event programmatically... but I can't run JS in the page through these tools. Hmm, but maybe the `type` action types into a focused element.

Let me try `drag` and see.

Interesting! In the mapping legend, the "W / C#4" cell is highlighted (selected) — the drag started on the mapping table cell, not the key! That means my y coordinate of 420 landed on the mapping table, not the keyboard keys. So the keys are higher up than I thought.

Wait — the mapping table is below the keyboard. If y=420 hit the mapping table (which is below the keys)... hmm, in the screenshot, the mapping panel is at roughly y=520-560. Hmm, but the highlight appears on W/C#4 cell which is the second cell (x≈ 264-294?). Hmm, that doesn't match x=397 either.

Hmm, actually the drag text "C4" — maybe the tool's drag selects text at the position (highlighting text). The DOM shows "W\nC#4" as selected. So the mousedown at (397,420) hit... let's see, in the screenshot the mapping table cells: the table is 13 cells wide, each ~30px+6 gap → total ~ 13*36 = 468 wide, centered → left ~ 366. Cell 2 (W) spans x≈ 366+36=402 to 432. And y for the mapping panel: keys end around y≈505, then panel padding, mapping at ~520-560. If the screenshot's y=420 corresponds to... hmm.

Wait — maybe the screenshot is not 1200x800 but scaled. The attached image looks like a browser window with a scrollbar. The DOM text mentions "Frame 1". Perhaps the viewport height is 800 but the page content is taller than the viewport... no, in the screenshot everything fits.

Hmm, actually maybe the mapping table's y is around 500 and the keyboard keys are at y 300-500. My click at y=420 should hit a white key. Unless... the click coordinates are in a different scale: the image appears to have width ~1200 and the content spans the full width.

Let me reconsider: maybe the drag did hit the C4 key but the mousedown → my handler didn't fire, and the text selection highlight I see is just the browser's default selection behavior from dragging starting at (397,420)... but the highlighted cell is W/C#4, i.e. the second cell, not C4. So the mousedown position was within cell 2 → x≈ 402-432, y within the mapping panel.

So the mapping panel is at y≈420? That means the keyboard keys are ABOVE y=420?? But the keyboard is 210px tall and appears to occupy y 300-510 in the screenshot... unless the screenshot is rendered at a different scale than the coordinates. Let's estimate: if the mapping panel is at y=420 with keyboard above it starting at ~y=180 and ending at y=390... In the screenshot the keyboard looks like it spans from ~28% to ~63% of the height (800*0.28=224 to 504). Hmm, close to 224-434?

Let me directly compute the layout in the browser. I can't run JS... but maybe I can infer from the screenshot more carefully. Let me take a screenshot now to compare current highlight position with pixel coordinates. Actually here's a trick: use `drag` with a small delta at a known y to find where an element is, then read the screenshot. But the simplest: make the keys bigger and add a big clickable area? Or better: use the `click` tool with text-based clicking (like "Start audio" earlier, which selected the button by text). Maybe `click` with text finds an element by text. Earlier I passed text "Start audio" AND coordinates — maybe it used the text to find the element. So I can click with text "C4" or "F#4"! Let's try `click` with text="C4" and no coordinates — it may find the element by text content. But "C4" appears in the mapping legend too. Let's try text "C#4" first to test whether it targets the black key... ambiguous.

Better: give each key a unique accessible label and use click text? The tool likely does fuzzy text matching on the DOM.

Alternatively: reduce uncertainty by measuring. Let me use the browser's `motion` action? That's for motion frames.

Alternative approach: temporarily add a test hook — a global function that reports the bounding rect of a key into the DOM text so I can read it in the inspect output. E.g., add `document.body.dataset.c4rect = JSON.stringify(el.getBoundingClientRect())` computed on load. Then inspect's "dom" output... does inspect show data attributes? It showed text content only, I think. Hmm.

Actually, the inspect tool gave "dom" which is probably document.body.innerText. So I could write the rect into a visible DOM element (e.g., append a <div id="debug"> with text). Then inspect would show it. Let's do that temporarily — actually I can keep a tiny permanent debug line? Better temporary.

Let me add temporarily: after building keys, append a div with rects of first white and first black key, then inspect, then remove.

The click coordinates hit the mapping legend instead of the keys. Let me add temporary geometry debug output:

The keyboard is at x 368-832, y 175-385. So my earlier click at y=420 was below the keys. Let's click at (398, 340) — center of C4 white key.

Also note the C#4 black key spans x 409-445, y 176-308. Good positioning.

Now: start audio (Enter), then click C4 at (398,340).

Mouse press works: noteOn C4 (pointer) → noteOff C4 (release envelope).

Now let's test a black key click: C#4 at x = 409..445, y 176..308 → click at (427, 250).

Also test multi-note: press three keys at once. With the click tool I can't hold multiple. But I can test polyphony by pressing keys in rapid sequence (a, s, d) — each is a tap. To verify simultaneous notes, I can use drag which holds the pointer down while moving across keys: glissando from C4 to D4 to E4 should press multiple. Let's do that as it tests both.

Let me first click a black key.

Black key works too. Now test:
1. Multi-key drag (glissando) — tests polyphony and moving between keys.
2. Held state visual highlight — a drag ending outside the keyboard? Actually to check highlight while held, I'd want to inspect mid-hold. The drag action ends with a release, so I can't observe mid-hold... unless the drag is slow. Alternatively, keyboard: press a key and the browser tool key action likely does down then up immediately.

Hmm — but what about the earlier drag where the mapping cell got highlighted? That was a text selection from mousedown... Interesting: the mouse drag at (397,420) selected text. That means mousedown happened outside a key.

For mid-hold inspection: maybe I can dispatch keydown for a key and the tool returns after keyup. Let me instead verify highlight logic by reading the code — it's straightforward — plus a screenshot taken right after a keyboard press? Not possible.

Alternative: I can verify the highlight via a different approach — hold a key using the `key` action with a multi-char text like "asd"? That would type a, s, d each with down/up.

OK, let me at least test the drag glissando to confirm polyphony and press/release while held, then remove the debug div.

Let me drag from C4 (398, 340) → E4 (514, 340) passing over D4.

Actually careful: mouseover events fire during the drag. Let's see if the console shows noteOn for C4, D4, E4 and noteOff for the ones left.

Glissando works: press → slide → release with proper noteOff for each.

Now test the keyboard auto-repeat prevention. I can't easily hold a key with the tool... The `key` action likely does keydown+keyup. Hmm. But maybe the `key` action's text with a held key would show. Let me test typing "aa" quickly - both taps worked before (a → on/off).

To test auto-repeat prevention, I need a held key. What if the `key` action with text like "a" is a single tap. I could try the `type` action? Also taps.

Given the code review shows `if (e.repeat) return;` on keydown, and the held Map dedupes by note (even if a repeat slipped through, pressNote wouldn't create a second voice since `held.has(note)` is true), this is safe. I'll verify by code reasoning.

Now let me also verify blender "window loses focus" → releaseAll. Can't trigger easily; code review suffices.

Let me now remove the debug div and do a final verification pass: reload, start audio, play a few keys, check console + screenshot for highlight.

For the highlight check, one option: use the `key` action with a long key press? Let me check what happens if I press a key and immediately take a screenshot — the keydown/keyup are near-instant so the highlight will be gone. Alternatively, I can temporarily make the release slow? No, don't hack the app.

Actually, there's a way: I can check the highlight class via the DOM snapshot if I could inspect mid-hold... Not available.

Alternative: I can verify the highlight by dispatching a keydown through the browser tool with a "hold" — maybe the key action supports a longer press if the text is a key name and there's a delay parameter? No.

Hmm, but wait: the drag's mousedown + mouseup happens quickly too. But the text-selection highlight earlier showed the mouse drag held for a moment.

One trick: use `drag` with a tiny move (e.g., from (398,340) to (399,340)) — the harness might insert a delay between mousedown and mouseup, and my screenshot afterwards would still show released state.

I think a reasonable approach: verify via a screenshot taken during a keyboard hold is not feasible; instead, I'll verify highlight behavior through code review (toggle 'active' class in pressNote/releaseNote/updateUI, and CSS .key.active rules) — and I can additionally demonstrate it by taking a screenshot right after a `drag` press using `motion` action? The "motion" action captures motion frames — probably for watching animations. Let me try: perform a drag from a key to the same key (no movement) and then immediately `motion`. Unlikely to help.

Actually — I can make the test deterministic without hacking: use keyboard press of a key and then check the DOM for the active class right after... no.

Let me try one thing: press key 'a' via the key tool and immediately take a screenshot. If the harness includes a delay, the highlight might be visible. Let's try it.

First remove the debug element.

Now let me remove the debug element and do a final check:

Hmm, the `type` action with "asd" produced no notes, while `key` with "a" earlier produced a note. So `type` may be typing into an input element (none) or dispatching differently. Let me use individual `key` actions instead.

Earlier `key` with text "a" → noteOn/noteOff C4. Let me press s, d, f via `key`.

Actually wait — earlier the `type` with "asdfjkl" failed because audio wasn't started (overlay up). This time audio was started... but still no notes. So `type` doesn't dispatch keydown events to window? Or it types into a focused element and the events go somewhere else. Let me just use `key` for each.

Keyboard works via `key`. Let me test a black key computer mapping (W → C#4) and a high note (K → C5), and also verify auto-repeat protection isn't triggered.

Also, to verify simultaneous polyphony, I need multiple notes held. Since `key` is a tap, the notes release immediately. One way to observe simultaneous notes: the PolySynth's active voices count. I have a "active voices" counter that equals held.size, which for taps is 0 after release.

I could temporarily test polyphony by verifying Tone's PolySynth voice count. Alternatively, trust Tone.PolySynth.

Actually, let me do a stronger verification of simultaneity and highlighting: temporarily add a hidden test hook `window.__testHold(note, ms)` that presses notes and keeps them held, so I can take a screenshot mid-hold and check active voices = 3. This is a legit debug approach. But adding test hooks to the final file is not ideal... I could add it temporarily and remove it after. Let me do that: temporarily expose `window.__hold(note, source)`.

Actually, a simpler and permanent-safe approach: I can trigger multi-note holds via the drag from a key to another key? No—each key release happens as it's left.

Let me temporarily add: window.__press = (note) => pressNote(note, 'keyboard'); window.__release = ...; then in the browser I can't call JS anyway! I have no way to execute JS in the page. Hmm. Right, the browser tool only has click/drag/key/type/scroll/inspect/screenshot/motion.

OK so multi-note hold verification via browser isn't directly possible. However, I could use `type` with multiple keys — it failed to dispatch keydown to window though. Maybe `type` dispatches keypress/keydown to the focused element which might be the body; the events should bubble to window. It produced nothing... Maybe `type` types into a text input and the events are trusted? My handlers are on window with capture=false, so they'd bubble from body. Odd. Unless `type` inserts text directly.

Hmm, what about `key` with text "asd"? Let me try — maybe the key action supports multiple characters, sending keydown for each sequentially without keyup? Worth testing: `key` with text "asd".

Only single keys. Let me try pressing keys without releasing... not possible.

So I'll verify multitone by code inspection: `Tone.PolySynth` handles voice allocation with maxPolyphony 32, so at least 3 simultaneous notes is supported. Plus the held-map + triggerAttack per note.

Hmm, but I'd like empirical verification. Idea: use the `drag` action from a key to a position where the pointerup occurs... no.

Another idea: Pointer down on key A, then (while holding) move to key B and pause? The drag ends with release.

Alternatively: Could I verify simultaneous notes using mousedown on key A, then press keyboard key D while the mouse is held down? Different tools = separate calls, each ending. The click releases.

OK — accept code-level verification for the multi-note case, but let me at least confirm PolySynth voice count works by testing something observable: press a key, and while its release is in progress (1.4s release), press another. Not observable in the console.

Hmm, actually there IS an observable way: Tone's PolySynth logs warnings when exceeding maxPolyphony. Not needed.

I could improve observability by logging the number of active Tone voices: `synth.activeVoices` exists in Tone 14.8? PolySynth has `activeVoices` property (yes, PolySynth has activeVoices). Let me log activeVoices on noteOn to demonstrate polyphony. But since taps are sequential, it would show 1 or 2.

Let me try to at least hold a note using keyboard while clicking with mouse:
1. `key` action on 'd' — but that releases immediately.

What if I use `drag` with toX/toY equal to from (no movement)? That will press and release on the same key.

I think the practical limit is: code inspection for simultaneity. Let me review my final code once fully to ensure correctness, and add logging of `synth.activeVoices` in pressNote so a chord press shows multiple voices (useful when the user holds keys).

Actually — wait. There might be a way to hold: the `key` tool may support a "hold" if I send a key with a modifier? No.

Let me at least verify the release-outside-key behavior: mousedown on a key, then pointerup outside the key. I can do: `drag` from key (398,340) to (600, 300) (outside keyboard, to the right, above the keys). The console showed noteOff for the origin key. Confirmed earlier with the glissando.

Also verify blur release: I can trigger `blur` maybe by clicking another frame? Not available. Code review suffices.

Let me now do a final read-through of the file and check for any issues:
1. `keyboardEl.addEventListener("mouseleave", onUpAnywhere)` on window — mouseleave on window fires when the pointer leaves the document; that releases all pointer notes. Good.
2. Potential issue: `pointerover`/`mouseover` with `pointerIsDown` — after a mousedown on a key, moving over another key presses it. Fine.
3. Issue: on `mousedown` I don't call setPointerCapture — fine.
4. Issue: text selection during drag — I call e.preventDefault() in onDown, which prevents text selection start. Good.
5. `keyEls` map for keys: note class 'active' toggling.
6. One more: `pressNote` uses `Tone.now()` — fine.

One more consideration: when a note is held by pointer and the same note is pressed by keyboard, then only the first release removes... handled by sources set.

Also: `releaseNote` triggers release only when sources become empty. Good.

Another potential issue: window "mouseup" listener on window — in the drag test, noteOff fired. Good.

Also `blur` listener registered on window: `window.addEventListener("blur", releaseAll)`.

Let me view the final file to double check the whole script, then finish. Let me also add the activeVoices log to pressNote for observability.

Let me read the script portion of the file.

Let me review the final script for correctness:

→ bash {"command":"cd /tmp/job-k5N3nd && awk '/^<script>$/,/^<\\/script>$/' index.html | sed -n '1,400p' | grep -n \"\" | sed -n '150,400p'"}

The code looks solid. A couple of small improvements:

1. `mouseleave` on window might not fire reliably; also if the pointer is released outside the window, mouseup elsewhere won't fire — but `mouseleave`/`blur` covers it.
2. Auto-repeat guard: `e.repeat` returns. But also note that some browsers send keydown repeats without e.repeat? All modern set it. Also the held-map dedupe is a second layer. Good.
3. Add active voice logging from Tone for observability. Let me add `synth.activeVoices` to the noteOn log if available.

Let me add that. Also add a small "hold" hint.

Also: the requirement "Display the computer-key mapping" — done both on the keys and in the legend.

One more requirement check: "Highlight keys while held." Done via .active class + CSS. I haven't visually verified mid-hold. Let me try to verify by a trick: perform a `drag` starting on a key with a very small movement and take a screenshot immediately with `motion`? The `motion` action captures frames — maybe it records a sequence of frames during an interaction? Let's try: perform `drag` then `motion`. Actually motion is likely for animations in the page. Let me try `motion` right after a drag to see if frames show mid-press states. Low cost.

Actually a smarter trick: `key` action on a key, then IMMEDIATELY `screenshot` — the harness may have latency such that the keyup already happened. But maybe the harness holds the key for the duration of the action round-trip? Earlier the screenshot after `key a` showed no highlight (I did a screenshot after key a? Yes — the screenshot after pressing 'a' showed no highlight on the C4 key). So it releases.

Alternative: I can verify the CSS highlight renders by using `drag` — during the drag press, if I take a `motion` capture I might see intermediate frames. Let me try one: drag from (398,340) to (500,340) then motion. Hmm, motion after drag completes won't show it.

Alternative verification of highlight: I can add a permanent feature — a "Sustain/hold" toggle? Not required.

I think a decent empirical verification: use the CSS `:active` selector too — the browser applies :active during mouse press; not observable either.

Let me try the `motion` action right after initiating a drag... I can't interleave.

OK: alternative approach to actually SEE a held key: make the pointer release happen only after the drag, and take a screenshot DURING the drag using `motion`. Let's try `motion` and see what it returns.

Actually, let me try something different and quite reliable: use `drag` from a key to outside the keyboard but capture with `motion` immediately after. Not useful.

Honestly, the highlight logic is 3 lines and matches standard patterns; combined with the CSS rules I can verify the styling exists. I'll verify the highlight differently: I'll write a quick local DOM check? Not without JS execution.

Hmm — one thing I CAN do: the `click` tool with `text` matching! Earlier, clicking with text "Start audio" worked (found the button by text). If I `click` with text "C#4" it might target an element whose text is C#4 — but there are multiple (key + mapping cell). Maybe the harness picks the first. Either way it's still a press/release, not a hold.

I'll settle for: verified noteOn/noteOff pairing, key labels, layout, mapping display, audio activation. Note that press-held highlighting is verified only by code inspection (press → classList.add('active') via updateUI; release → remove). And I did observe that after the earlier drag, the mapping cell got highlighted with a selection showing the mouse press reached the page.

Actually, wait! I can verify the highlight empirically using a longer press: the `drag` action's mouse may be held for the duration of the drag steps. If I drag from a key to the SAME key with a small delta, the intermediate frame might show the highlight. `motion` action "capture motion frames" — it may auto-perform an interaction? Let me just try `motion` and see what it gives.

Let me first add the activeVoices logging and then try motion.

thinking
Release-outside-key works (noteOff fired when the pointer left the key and/or on mouseup outside).

Now, one remaining thing to verify: press-and-hold highlighting. Since the browser tools can't hold, I'll verify the CSS is applied by a code-level check plus a rendered screenshot check of a "held" state — could I make the app show a temporary highlight?

Idea: I can verify the highlight through a legitimate app feature that produces a visible held state the harness can screenshot... Not from a tap.

Alternative: hold a key by dragging onto a key and then the drag END action — the release happens at the end. But what if I drag from a key to an element and the drag is a multi-step process? The `drag` tool likely does mousedown, mousemove(s), mouseup. There's no way to pause.

Hmm — actually there might be: the `drag` tool with `toX/toY` far away could take multiple intermediate steps, and if I could screenshot mid-drag... The `screenshot` action is separate.

What about the `motion` action? It says "see screenshots or motion frames" — it might capture a sequence of frames during an interaction. Let me just try `motion` with no prior action and see what happens; maybe it runs an animation capture of the current page state — that won't show a held key either.

Let me take a different approach for held-highlight verification: temporarily patch the app to add a self-test that highlights a key for ~2 seconds on load when a URL hash like #selftest is present. Then screenshot during that window. That's a clean, temporary verification. Actually simpler: I can temporarily set the app to highlight a note when a special query param is present, take the screenshot, then remove it.

Given the time budget, let me do this quickly: add temporary code:

```js
if (location.hash === '#selftest') {
  document.querySelector('.key[data-note="G4"]').classList.add('active');
}
```
Then screenshot with hash in URL. But reloading with a hash — the browser tool's reload probably loads the same URL. Can I navigate? Probably not.

Alternative: make it unconditional temporarily: on load, after 1s add 'active' to the C5 key, remove after 2s. Then: reload, then wait, then screenshot. But there's no wait action... I can do: reload, then click a key (which takes time), then screenshot. Hmm, timing uncertain.

Actually, here's a neat trick using existing app code: the `key` action presses and releases. If I press a key with the `key` tool and then immediately `screenshot`, maybe the harness's keyup happens quickly. Already tested — no highlight visible.

Let me try the temporary timer approach with a longer window (5 seconds) so I can reload → screenshot within the window.

Let me temporarily verify held-key highlighting with a timed highlight, then remove it:

→ edit {"edits":[{"newText":" updateUI();\n if (location.hash === \"#selftest\") {\n setTimeout(() => { pressNote(\"G4\", \"selftest\"); }, 30

Now I need the browser to load /tmp/selftest.html. The browser tool loads index.html presumably from the current dir. Let me copy selftest.html over index.html temporarily, reload, screenshot quickly, then restore index.html.

Steps:
1. cp index.html index_real.html (backup)
2. cp /tmp/selftest.html index.html
3. reload
4. screenshot (within 6s window — the press happens at 300ms)
5. restore

Screenshot after reload should capture the highlighted G4 key.

Hmm — the DOM doesn't show the "selftest" highlight and the screenshot was taken after more than 6s? Actually the screenshot was probably more than 6 seconds after reload (network round trips). The highlight window was 300ms–6000ms. The screenshot came later.

Also note pressNote returns early when !ready, so the 'active' class isn't applied before audio starts! That's why nothing showed. I need to start audio first.

Let me redo: modify the selftest to also start audio: at 300ms call startAudio() then pressNote. Then screenshot quickly. But the screenshot latency is uncertain — it might be a few seconds. Let me widen the window: press at 300ms, release at 60s. Then: reload, screenshot, then click Start audio (or press Enter) — but any key press action... The screenshot doesn't need audio for highlighting, but pressNote needs ready=true.

Let me do: selftest with startAudio() then press at 500ms, release at 120s. Then reload, screenshot, and check.

The overlay is covering the screen though — the overlay would hide the keyboard. startAudio hides the overlay. Good, since I'm calling startAudio in selftest.

But startAudio requires a user gesture for Tone.start()... Tone.start() without a gesture will fail/reject → unhandled promise rejection. It's a temp test, fine, but the overlay might stay. Hmm.

Alternative approach for highlight verification: temporarily change pressNote to add the class regardless of ready. Simpler: in the selftest block, manually do the class toggling:

```js
setTimeout(() => { keyEls.get("G4").classList.add("active"); }, 300);
setTimeout(() => { keyEls.get("G4").classList.remove("active"); }, 60000);
```
That isolates the CSS rendering. Combined with code reading that pressNote → updateUI → classList.toggle('active', held.has(note)), this verifies the visual highlight.

Let's do that.

The overlay is up, but I can see behind it that the G4 white key (7th white key, "G4" with G) appears highlighted (blue-ish) compared to the others. Looking at the image: the keys behind the overlay — the G4 key (labeled G4 / G) appears slightly lighter/blue. Hard to tell through the dim overlay. Let me zoom: the key with "G4" and "G" label — in the image it does look bluish/tinted compared to the white neighbors. I'm fairly confident the highlight CSS works (the class-based CSS is standard).

To be safer, let me make the highlight verification unambiguous by hiding the overlay in this test copy. I'll modify the test copy: remove the overlay display (set #overlay{display:none}) and take a screenshot again.

Actually, since the class was added, and I can see a subtle difference... Let me do one more screenshot with the overlay hidden to confirm clearly. I'll add a style override in the test file.

The CSS is broken now — `#overlay { display:none !important; /*TEST*/\n  x {` — the "x {" is a new selector. Wait: line 168 is `#overlay { display:none !important; /*TEST*/\n  x {`? No, sed replaced `#overlay {` with `#overlay { display:none !important; /*TEST*/\n  x {`, so the original `#overlay {` became `#overlay { display:none !important;` and then `  x {` inserted before the original body. So the CSS is:

```
#overlay { display:none !important;
  x {
    position: fixed;
    inset: 0;
    ...
```
That's broken CSS but still parses? `#overlay { display:none !important; \n x {` — invalid, the parser will recover. The overlay would be display:none, which is what I want for the test. Let me reload and screenshot to see the keyboard clearly.

Final state verified. `index.html` is clean (no test/debug code) and working. ## Summary **Built:** `/tmp/job-k5N3nd/index.html` — a self-contained Tone.js piano (no external assets; loads local `tone.min.js`). **Implementation highlights** - **Keyboard:** 13 keys C4→C5 with correct black/white geometry (black keys absolutely positioned over the white-key gaps), each showing its note name + computer-key label. A separate mapping legend table displays all 13 pairs. - **Voices:** `Tone.PolySynth(Tone.Synth)` with an ADSR envelope (attack .02 / decay .28 / sustain .55 / release 1.4) through a filter and chorus — `maxPolyphony: 32`, well above the 3-note requirement. - **Note lifecycle:** a `held` map keyed by note stores the *set* of sources ("keyboard"/"pointer") currently holding it. `triggerAttack` fires only on the first holder; `triggerRelease` fires only when the last source releases. This makes duplicate voices structurally impossible and makes pointer+keyboard holding the same note safe. - **Auto-repeat:** `if (e.repeat) return` in the keydown handler (plus the source-set guard as a second layer). - **Stuck-note prevention:** `pointerup`/`pointercancel`/`mouseleave` on window, `mouseout`/`pointerout` from a key (including dragging off a key onto the page), `window` `blur`, and `visibilitychange` all release held notes. No pointer capture is used, so releases outside a key are always seen. - **Audio activation:** overlay + "Start audio" button (also any first key press), guarded against double-starting. **What I verified in the browser** - Layout/geometry via `getBoundingClientRect` probe: keyboard 464×210 at x 368–832, C#4 correctly straddling the C4/D4 gap. - Mouse clicks on white (C4) and black (C#4) keys, keyboard `a`, `w`, `s`, and `k` → console showed matching `noteOn`/`noteOff` pairs with correct note names, and the "last note"/"active voices" indicators updated. - Drag from C4 across D4 to E4 (glissando) and a drag from C4 out to the page margin → each note got its own noteOn then noteOff, i.e. release-on-leave works. - Held-highlight: temporarily forced the `active` class to render and screenshotted it (G4 glowed blue), confirming the CSS highlight path that real presses use. That debug code was removed afterwards; final file was reloaded and re-checked clean. **Not verified (couldn't with the available tools):** simultaneous playback of ≥3 held notes — the harness only sends momentary key presses/clicks, so I couldn't keep three keys depressed at once. The polyphony is guaranteed structurally by `PolySynth` with `maxPolyphony: 32` and the per-note voice bookkeeping, but audible multi-voice output was not heard. Likewise, the `blur`/`visibilitychange` release path was inspected in code but not triggered.
